This beautiful authentic antique whale's tooth scrimshaw has a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on one side.  His face is framed by American flags of the day and a striking eagle.  The delightful banner below states "E PLURIBUS UNUM" with a cannon tying it together. There is quite a bit of detail and the skill of the artist is evident. The other side takes advantage of the natural features of the tooth by draping a woman's dress over the gap. A flag flutters behind her and the scene is emblazoned by the phrase "GOD, OUR COUNTRY AND LIBERTY".  The tooth is heavier than most and measures 4 1/2" by 3". The tooth itself is interesting with its nice patina and a variety of natural features. This appears to be a very old tooth and is a very nice piece. The interior of the tooth is quite interesting as well.  (39)  SOLD
